RCA Updates (June 2017)

Water Everywhere. At its June 5 meeting, the RCA welcomed Karen Pallansch – CEO of Alexandria Renew Enterprises – and Jesse Maines – City Division Chief for Stormwater Management – to brief us on water issues in Alexandria. Pallansch provided a presentation on how the city treats wastewater, and Maines outlined the purposes and implementation plans for the new stormwater fee that will enter into effect next year. Community Safety. Lt. Bailey, our Police liaison, also gave a crime briefing – and a reminder to keep cars locked, to avoids crimes of opportunity. Between May 21 and June 1, seven larcenies from automobiles were reported without forced entry.
Traffic Study. A study is in progress for central Alexandria, including King Street on the northwest edge of Rosemont. A Facebook page devoted to the study and related issues recently was established at https://www.facebook.com/pg/CentralAlex.TrafficZen/about/.
Maury Schoolyard. Some reminders via the Maury PTA … especially now that the renovated schoolyard is in place. 1) No dogs on school property. We all love them, but this is a City ordinance. 2) Free range children are permitted, but please do make sure that they’re responsible. 3) Volunteers to collect trash and help keep the space orderly are also always welcome.
