Fourth of July.  We would like to resume holding our traditional holiday event, now that the Maury School’s playground renovation is complete, but we need volunteers to help organize it – if you’re interested, please let us know, so we can start the planning process (if it’s going to happen, the planning process does need to begin ASAP).

Next Meeting.  Please mark your calendar for Thursday, June 21, for the next RCA meeting (7:30pm, at the Commonwealth Baptist Church, 700 Commonwealth Avenue). We will be joined by Rachael Moxley, a City Engineer, for a briefing on the City’s new Stormwater Utility Fee; starting this spring, it is a new line item on real estate bills (typically $70, twice annually), to fund the increasing costs of state and federal Chesapeake Bay protection mandates. One of the pending issues is how the City can offer credits for residences that reduce their runoff impact.  (For a survey on that subject which is open until April 29, please visit https://survey.alexandriava.gov/s3/StormwaterUtilityFeeSurvey. For more information about the fee generally, please visit https://www.alexandriava.gov/tes/stormwater/info/default.aspx?id=93591.)

Spring Clean Up.  Spring cleanup day – i.e., for pickup of large items – is April 28 in most of Rosemont (south of of Braddock Road). For more information, please visit https://www.alexandriava.gov/tes/solidwaste/info/default.aspx?id=84166.

Primary Election.  The Democratic Party will select its City Council candidates in a primary on Tuesday, June 12; there are twelve individuals seeking the six nominations (four incumbents and 8 newcomers). A list is available at https://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/elections/info/disclosures/contact%20information%204.11.18.pdf. Additionally, the Republican Party will be holding a primary to select its U.S. Senate candidate; see https://www.alexandriava.gov/Elections. Absentee voting starts on Friday, April 27.
