Commonwealth Repaving. The final plans for the repaving of Commonwealth Avenue are now available. Initial work (such as on sidewalk upgrades) is expected to begin this week, with the milling and repaving work expected in early- to mid-June. Residents who may be directly affected should be on the lookout for signage about parking and other restrictions. Please visit https://www.alexandriava.gov/tes/default.aspx?id=116748 for more information.
Street Racing. On April 14, the RCA (with assistance from Sheriff Dana Lawhorne) arranged a video meeting with Captain Koushel of the Virginia State Police to discuss community concerns about street racing and traffic enforcement issues. The enforcement issues are complicated based on state law and the VSP’s resources – a next step may be to speak to our state legislators about law changes that would facilitate enforcement. If you’re interested in being involved, please let us know.
Art Kits. The City Office of the Arts has provided us with a limited number of “Khalid’s Painting the Moment Art” kits. The kit includes paint supplies, coloring block, and an interactive art activity sheet. The goal of this activity is for participants to create their own one of a kind “Coloring Block”, an all-sided wood panel painting in their own expressive abstract style that they can hang or display wherever they like. If you’re interested in picking one up, please email jol@thirdamendment.com.
