** PELT Committee Update: Glass Recycling
————————————————————

Hi Neighbors:

Would you like a more convenient recycling place to drop off your glass?

One of our neighbors, Robert Letzler of East Spring Street, has spearheaded a data-driven effort to add a more convenient spot for Rosemont residents to drop off their glass.

You may recall that in early 2020, the City ceased accepting glass in its curbside recycling program. The reason? In short, glass collected curbside tends to break during collection and transport, damaging machinery, contaminating other materials, and essentially ends up un-recycled.

Instead, the City has encouraged residents to drop off their glass at dedicated glass recycling containers (with the next best option to discard glass in the trash). However, these drop-off locations have not necessarily been convenient enough for many Rosemont residents to make routine drop-offs “a thing.”

In response, Robert has created a map showing gaps in the City where a new glass recycling drop-off container could be situated. He has discussed two proposed locations with City staff to fill the need:

(1) Eugen Simpson Park, or

(2) Main Line Boulevard between GW Middle School football field and the Metro tracks.

For more detailed information on the initiative and specific proposed locations, please visit https://alx-glass.github.io/. (https://alx-glass.github.io/.)

Rosemont PELT supports this worthwhile initiative to help reduce waste and save the City money and has followed up Robert’s efforts with a letter of support to the City.
