2024 RCA Officer Elections and Annual Meeting

The Rosemont Citizens Association will hold elections for all officer positions at 7:00 PM on September 18, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Each adult attending in-person at this meeting can vote for the RCA’s future officers.

If you are interested in being considered for one or more RCA officer positions, please send a personal statement and the officer position(s) of interest to Derry Deringer at deringer3@gmail.com by August 15, 2024.

Each candidate, including current RCA officers seeking a future position, is asked to write a brief personal statement (100 words or less) that will serve as their candidate profile. The personal statement should include why you wish to serve as an RCA officer and why you believe you would be a good fit for the officer position/s. You may be a candidate for one or multiple positions.

Candidate profiles will be distributed through the typical RCA communications channels: Rosemont Group listserv, the RCA website, the RCA newsletter, and social media a month before the annual meeting so the community has ample time to consider the candidacies.

We plan to hold a short meet-and-greet at the beginning of the annual meeting to allow the community to chat with the candidates and ask questions.

Officers will serve two-year terms. Elections will be held every two years at the RCA annual meeting in September. Newly elected officers will assume their new roles immediately following the annual meeting.

The current RCA officers are:

President – Jol Silversmith

1st Vice-President – Karla Springer

2nd Vice-President – Garrett Erdle

Secretary – John Leary

Treasurer – Dina-Maria Deringer

Garrett Erdle and Karla Springer are not seeking future officer positions.

The RCA officer job descriptions are attached. These descriptions were created using a combination of the RCA by-laws, the roles of the current officers, and the association’s estimated future needs.

NOTE: There is no RCA meeting in July. The next meeting is September 18th.

Fourth of July

We regret that it has become necessary to cancel this year’s Fourth of July event due to previously unpublicized plans for summer construction at Brooks Elementary. Needless to say, the RCA is disappointed by this development.

However, we were already discussing resuming the tradition of an Oktoberfest event (which lapsed in Rosemont in the 90s), so the silver lining is that this allows us to focus our efforts on planning for that event.  We plan to announce the next couple of months.  In the meantime, we hope you have a happy Independence Day and summer!

City Elections

Primaries were held on June 18th to select the Democratic candidates for Mayor and City Council and the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.

The victors were Alyia Gaskins for Mayor; John Taylor Chapman, Sarah Bailey, Kirk McPike, Abdel Elnoubi, Canek Aguirre, and Jacinta Greene for Council; and Hung Cao for Senate.  One Republican – Celianna Gunderson – has filed to run for Council in November.  For the Senate, the Democratic candidate is incumbent Tim Kaine; independent Jonathan Hardin is also running.  The November ballot will also include the Presidency and the Eighth Congressional District (Don Beyer, the Democratic incumbent; Republican Jerry Torres, and independents Jeramy Olmack, David Kennedy, and Stephen Leon).
