Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 6 at 7:30pm at the Commonwealth Baptist Church, 700 Commonwealth Avenue. Our guests will be City staff including Christine Mayeur, Complete Streets Manager, to discuss traffic issues in Rosemont. Some comments already have been provided via the Rosemont groups.io discussion list, but please come prepared to address specific issues and desired remedies (for example, solutions to address safety can cause congestion problems, and vice versa). Top of the list is congestion at Russell/King (including the traffic island at Cedar), but other intersections that have been mentioned as concerns include Rosemont/King and Braddock/Commonwealth. Two background documents are a study of safety improvements for intersections near Maury Elementary (https://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/localmotion/info/2017_2_27_Maury%20report.pdf) and planned improvements at Russell/King, with an emphasis on pedestrian/bicycle safety (https://www.alexandriava.gov/localmotion/info/default.aspx?id=77933).

Pocket Parks: A draft Pocket Parks Improvement Plan will be presented to the Park and Recreation Commission on February 20. See https://www.alexandriava.gov/recreation/info/default.aspx?id=65170#PocketParkPlanning. There are two parks in Rosemont that would be affected: the dog park at Braddock and Commonwealth, and the Sunset Mini-Park.

Recycling Reminder: As of January 15, Alexandria is no longer collecting glass as part of its recycling program; drop-off bins are available at five locations throughout the city. For more information, please visit https://www.alexandriava.gov/tes/solidwaste/info/default.aspx?id=108530.

Small Business Zoning: The City is proposing to reduce the zoning requirements for small businesses (including restaurants and home-based businesses) – simplifying and eliminating permit requirements. For a summary of the proposals, see https://www.alexandriava.gov/planning/info/default.aspx?id=6644.
